Costs: Working on keeping costs down we are pleased to announce that S$60 is the cost for each participant (delegate, student officer, chaperone, MUN director, etc.)
Chaperones: Each school is expected to have at least one adult supervisor for their delegates.
Participants: Students in high school (Sec 3-4 and Junior College, Singapore system).
Workshops: In order to support new delegates and to ensure they have a successful and positive conference we offer beginner workshops. Please watch the web site for dates and times.
Committees: We are pleased to be able to offer a range of committees that will meet the various levels of experience among participating delegates. These nine committees will allow the conference to grow while keeping each committee size such that all delegates will have multiple opportunities for participation. Level 1 for beginners and the less experienced. Level 2 intermediate. Level 3 specialist and advanced.
All of the topics for MUNOFS V are timely, and have either local or global connotations. They will be stimulating, challenging and certainly controversial. We look forward to the research-generated ideas that delegates will present at the conference.
Featured at L1 are General Assembly 1 (peace and security), General Assembly 3 (social, cultural, humanitarian), Human Rights, and Environment.
ECOSOC (L2) focuses on issues related to economic and social development, which is core to the UN mission found in the Charter.
Special Conference (L2) this year will focus on water. This topic deals with a various aspects of water as reflected in the “United Nations Year of Water Cooperation”.
Security Council (L2) will be dealing with current issues of both regional and global concern. The very principles of the international community are at stake. This is for the more experienced delegate. Pairs of delegates will represent the fifteen member states.
Disarmament (L3) is intended to deal with complex and very controversial issues in the area of weapons and their use. This committee is limited in size and is for the more experienced delegate.
Advisory Panel on the Question of … (APQ) (L3). This specialized committee brings together affected and relevant Actors, state, IGO, NGO, and irregular, to focus on many aspects of a focused issue. This year the APQ will focus on the Central African Republic.
International Court of Justice** (L3) This is our first ICJ. Fifteen Judges will hear arguments from two pairs of advocates (lawyers), one representing Cambodia, the other representing Thailand, on the question of a Request for interpretation of the Judgment of 15 June 1962 in the case concerning the Temple of Preah Vihear (Cambodia v. Thailand). ICJ is highly specialized and would appeal to those interested in law. Separate application for Judge required.
